Behind the Mic with Sean Orr

We recently sat down for an interview with Sean Orr to talk about his debut EP "Eyes Wide Open" that was recorded, mixed and mastered here at Ladd Studios. Released on September 1, 2017, the process came together fairly quickly due to Sean's preparation and familiarity with our process. You may remember Sean from one of our very first sessions when he recorded Run Down the Hall.

Sean had finished writing the three other songs he wanted to showcase on his debut EP and came back to us with a vision for a professionally produced sound. Having played as an acoustic solo artist, Sean had recorded and released a single prior of 'Swingin' in the Trees' but told us he was ready to relax and let the engineer take control of the production and recording process.

Each song on the EP has been inspired from true experiences, tying into one another as a storyline of events from Sean's life so far.

With a music style that is acoustic, raw and soulful during live performances, the EP grew to become a full backing band of drums, bass, electric guitars, and keyboards contributed by Sean, as well as Erek Ladd and Timothy Li.

Influenced by musicians the likes of Matt Corby and , Sean has a unique and eclectic sound that draws the listener in. With a style that is a mixture of Soul, folk and pop, his haunting lyrics tie in to capture the attention of the audience without fully giving away the story, leaving each song open to interpretation.
